First solar-powered Dubai hotel to open in Dubailand
Updated on 07 March 2017

Construction on the 153-room Hotel Indigo in Dubai’s Sustainable City is set to begin. The hotel, which is expected to be fully operational by 2018, will be the first hotel in the Middle East to be completely operated by solar power.

"We have the final architectural design and work will start within weeks,” according to Diamond Developers CEO Faris Saeed.

The hotel, operating under IHG's lifestyle boutique brand Indigo, will rely heavily on a farm-to-table philosophy, with around 60 to 70% of the hotel’s fresh produce needs, such as herbs and vegetables, being sourced from an adjoining farm, Saeed said.
