Thursdays mark the start of the weekend in Dubai. To make your life easier, we’ve compiled a list of events and activities happening in the city over the next two days. You can thank us later.
1.Party at Base Dubai
Currently the talk of the town, this open-air nightclub at Dubai design District (d3) will be celebrating its third week in business with two massive parties. Thursday, 11th May, will see Swedish DJ and record producer Alesso behind the decks, while rapper Fetty Wap will take the stage on Friday, 12th May, for his first ever performance in the Middle East. From 10pm to 3am. Call 055-3134999.
2.Let the youngsters go to a teens-only party
Why must you have all the fun? The Arabian Ranches Golf Club will be the location for Spoilt, Dubai’s first teens-only party, this Friday. The outdoor party includes a line-up of Dubai’s best DJs spinning Hip Hop, House and Top 40 Chart tunes, as well as food trucks, games and giveaways. Tickets are priced at Dhs 125. IDs will be required to ensure all guests are between the ages of 13 and 19 only. www.platinumlist.net
3.Head to a pop-up market
Set your GPS to Times Square Center this Saturday for the Ripe Summer Market. You’ll get all the stuff the market is popular for - locally-made gourmet and speciality foods, organic essentials, fashion and beauty items and homeware – minus the sweltering heat. There are a host of different activities for those who don’t want to shop, including pop-up yoga and fitness classes, workshops and educational activities for the little ones. 13th May from 9am to 3pm. www.ripeme.com
4.Watch a record-breaking show at Festival Bay
Winner of two Guinness World Records, Dubai Festival City’s Imagine is back with another show titled ‘A Child’s Dream’. Harnessing the power of light, water, and fire, combined with giant aqua screens, fountains and surround sound, the show will take visitors on a wonderful journey through the vibrant imagination of a young child. Think airplanes, magical whales, mystical treehouse and giant dancing robots. Visitors can also check out the Dream Station – where they can sketch their dreams via special digital technology and get the chance to see their designs displayed on the InterContinental hotel (your audience will be the whole of Festival Bay). From May 4 to 18. Festival Square, Dubai Festival City. www.festivalcentre.com
5.Attend a full moon yoga session
To celebrate May’s full moon, Fairmont The Palm will host a yoga and meditation session under the warm night sky on Saturday at 8pm. The 90-minute session is priced at Dhs 75 and includes towels, water, refreshing beverages and healthy snacks. www.fairmont.com
