Dubai Airports Are ‘Good To Go’ As Runway Closes
Updated on 15 April 2019

In a recent tweet, Dubai Airports have confirmed that operations teams at both Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC) airports are ‘good to go’ for the 45-day long refurbishment of the southern runway at DXB starting Tuesday, 16 April and lasting until 30 May.

As the runway shuts down for extensive repair work for a month and half, it will leave DXB with just 50% of its runways available, rerouting certain flights to DWC, which will surge the number of passenger flights departing from and arriving at the airport located in Jebel Ali, 60 km from DXB.

Two charter flights and 16 airlines will operate 158 passenger flights a day from DWC increasing the passenger traffic at the new airport by 700%.

Airlines to operate from DWC include flydubai, Wizz Air, Aeroflot, Condor, Air India, Air India Express, Indigo, SpiceJet, Gulf Air, Royal Jordanian, Himalaya Airlines, Ukraine International Airlines, Nepal Airlines, Kuwait Airways, Salam Air, Mahan Air, flynas, and Azur Air.

During a period of month and half, Dubai Airports will also run an express bus service between DXB and DWC every 30 minutes departing from DXB Terminals 1, 2 and 3. For passengers rerouted to DWC who want to finish their journey by taxi, the taxi fare at DWC will start from Dhs 5 instead of the regular airport taxi rate of Dhs 20.

India’s National Airline, Air India and its low-budget airline Air India Express will divert some of their flights that go to and from Dubai, to Sharjah International Airport.

Emirates has already announced that it will reduce the number of flights it operates by 25 per cent.

Here’s a full list of routes that will be operating from DWC from April 16 to May 30, 2019:
