Special Olympics Torch Run To Visit Dubai

Ahead of the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 which will be held between 14-19 March, the ceremonial ‘Law Enforcement Torch Run’ will visit all the emirates, including Dubai.

The torch named the ‘Flame of Hope’ will arrive in Abu Dhabi from Athens, Greece on 28 February, and will make its way to Wadi Al Wurayah in Fujairah to start the torch run on 4 March at 9am.

The torch will then visit Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Ajman and Sharjah spending a day in each emirate, stopping at major landmarks including Jebel Jais, Fujairah Fort and Al Majaz Waterfront.

The torch will spend two days in Dubai where it will be taken to the Burj Al Arab, the Dubai Frame and Atlantis, the Palm followed by a ceremony in Burj Park on 10 March.

The torch will also spend a day each in Al Ain and Al Dhafra before it returns to Abu Dhabi visiting the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, and then head to its ultimate destination, the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 at Zayed Sports City, on 14 March.

The Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 will see 7,500 athletes with special abilities take part in sports including football, cycling, equestrian, bowling, swimming, volleyball, tennis and powerlifting.

Competitions take place at nine venues in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Tickets to the competitions are available for free to encourage residents to attend events and show support to the athletes.
